The staff was very friendly. They indicated that since we had already purchased full insurance, there was no hard sell for additional insurance. The return process was also very convenient; a staff member just checked the car briefly and we were good to go.
All good and an easy process. Expected a Mitsubishi ASX and received a Nissan Qashqui. Loved the car. There was a small mark on the door when we picked up the car, but the guys said very minor issues are not a problem. This put our minds at rest. There was a bit of a push to buy additional cover (which was unnecessary). We were going to the Great Ocean Road for 2 days then skiing for 3. Snow cover would have to be paid for the full tenure of the hire, not just for the days needed. So we didn't take it. This would be improved to cover only the needed for the time and we may have purchased it.
This Budget location mainly rents large vehicles, and our Kia Carnival was the smallest one. It is located outside Melbourne city, about a $30 Uber ride from the city center, which is very convenient since there are usually no large vehicles available in city locations. Communication over the phone was smooth, the car model was accurate at pick-up, and the staff was very helpful, assisting me in thoroughly checking the vehicle's condition, informing me of the fuel type and fines, and explaining the insurance in detail rather than trying to upsell. They assured me that using third-party insurance was fine. When returning the car, we were in a hurry, and the staff said they would wait for us until the agreed-upon time (since businesses in Australia often close earlier than 5 PM). We managed to return the car just before they closed the gate, and they didn't mind that we were a bit short on fuel.
I was rear-ended and returned the car to the rental company. The staff had a very unpleasant attitude, which was uncalled for! I was the victim, and I didn't want the car to be damaged either! I paid for the initial repair costs myself, and then I swapped for another car, but had to return it at the airport. The city office told me that I could claim the repair receipt at the return location, but when I got to the airport, nobody explained anything. I almost missed my flight after trying to explain for 40 minutes. Their service and efficiency were truly disappointing. However, a Chinese girl in charge of cleaning cars helped translate and explain for us, and her attitude was much better than those at the front desk. Unfortunately, there were no Chinese-speaking staff or interpreters at all at the airport. Though we could communicate, many technical terms were hard to understand. This is clearly worse compared to other car rental companies.
I originally rented an SUV, but I was given a tiny car, smaller than a compact Corolla. The service from this company is worse, mostly handled by Indian staff who only smile at white people.
