Although Thrifty shares office space with Hertz, there is no sign indicating this at the Munich East Station branch, only the Hertz logo. The opening hours on the rental platform stated a closing time of 6 PM, but in reality, they closed at 5 PM. This caused me to rush there by 5:30 PM on September 26, 2017, only to find that no one knew about Thrifty, not even the staff at the hotel where Hertz operates. What's more disappointing is that our train was delayed and we missed our stop, but when we called the office, they told us to get to East Station as soon as possible and hoped they could wait for us. However, they did not refuse us on the phone but left promptly at 5 PM, and the phone line was no longer reachable. This resulted in wasted valuable time and money, dragging three large suitcases back to the East Station. Even though we reached the hotel where their office is located, no one knew about the shared office arrangement, causing a lot of frustration until we figured it out by calling the rental platform's customer service. You showed no responsibility towards your customers. If you were really about to close, you should have informed us directly over the phone and helped coordinate with the Munich Central Station or the airport to let us rent a car there. Instead, you left us, unfamiliar visitors from China, to figure things out on our own. Moreover, the operating hours were marked incorrectly, the company signage was unclear, and despite having informed the staff in advance, they still left on time. Overall, this experience was extremely, extremely, extremely disappointing.
No one was there during pickup, so I couldn't check for scratches. There were additional charges compared to the booking price, and arguing with them was useless. The rented child seat was very worn out!
Hertz service was good. The wait time to pick up the car was quite long, but there was a staff member to check the car upon return. Our car's windshield had a small dent from a rock, which was noted by the staff. Once the return process was completed, I received the billing statement a few days after returning home. The damage assessment was reasonable, good service.
The service was quite standard and picking up the car was very convenient. However, we were told there was no Mondeo available when we arrived, and we were upgraded to a Mercedes instead. At the time, the communication wasn't clear, so I happily drove off thinking it was a free upgrade. When I received the bill back home, I thought I had been fined abroad (I had prepaid the rental fee through QEEQ). It was only after inquiring that I realized there are no free lunches. Haha, but I still think it was worth it. This car rental experience was great!
There were so many car models available, they almost took up an entire floor. As expected from the top company. They provided a diesel car, which saved money. Thumbs up!
The airport location is very noticeable, the queue was short, and the staff were very professional. We needed to extend the rental period, and they offered a very favorable price right away. The entire process was very simple.
Waited over half an hour in line to pick up the car. Despite being told there would be no extra fees, they automatically added high insurance costs without informing the consumer. Very disappointing!
First time renting a car abroad. The service from Hertz in Germany is absolutely great, much better than AVIS in the USA. I swear I will never rent from AVIS again, even if it means opting for Youku.
I have rented cars in Germany twice. The first time I rented an Audi A4 estate, but since they didn't have it, they upgraded me to a Volvo XC60, which was okay. This time I booked a Mercedes E-class estate, and again, they didn't have it, so they upgraded me to a Volvo XC60. Initially, I was a bit upset, but I found the XC60's noise insulation to be much better than the E-class estate I rented in the UK, and it had more space. The interior quality is much lower, and the driving feel of the Mercedes is definitely a class above Volvo.
