Both pickup and return are self-service, and no one inspects the car upon return. It’s very fast and convenient. The store's location is also very prominent, right next to the baggage claim area at Christchurch Airport. My only minor complaint is that the store pushes various services aggressively. I ended up renting snow chains due to their persistent selling but didn't use them at all.
The staff was relatively friendly, and both picking up and swapping cars were very convenient. If needed, you might consider buying additional insurance; it's not very expensive.
The Maori guy at reception wanted to charge us an extra 122 NZD even though we had already paid in full. He told us to contact QEEQ. After about 10 minutes, he admitted they made a mistake. Be cautious. The car was good, with only 17,000 kilometers driven.
None of the above-mentioned value-added services were provided. Rented a Prado but got a Highlander, which is a significant downgrade, and these two models have a noticeable price difference at the time of rental booking. Very dissatisfied with such a downgrade. The rental process took a long time, with 15 minutes of repeated insurance upselling. They did not acknowledge the comprehensive insurance I purchased through the rental platform. I specifically printed out the insurance policy in both Chinese and English, but they claimed ignorance and continuously tried to sell their insurance. Only after I compared their insurance with my comprehensive policy item by item and repeatedly stressed that I would not buy their insurance did they reluctantly stop. They even warned me that many Chinese people had accidents on the road and that I should buy their insurance. The counter is located in the arrivals hall of the airport, easy to find, but the process is slow and there is a queue. All drivers need to provide their driving licenses and notarized documents for scanning. The staff were very lazy; instead of making a copy on the side, they tore out the notarized document pages for scanning, which is terrible. Picking up the car is far from the counter, with no staff to assist, and the signs are hard to find, so it is entirely self-service.
The car rented from Ezi was in average condition. It had already driven over 140,000 kilometers when I picked it up. The air conditioning was poor, but luckily, it's not too hot in New Zealand during summer. After a few days, the cigarette lighter charging function also broke and couldn't charge anything!
The service attitude was good, but they were a bit understaffed, resulting in slow processing. It would be great if they could provide Chinese language support.
We completed the paperwork at the EZI rental car counter inside Christchurch Airport. There is no store, so there's no chance to choose a vehicle; you're given the car keys and directed to the airport parking lot to pick up the car yourself. Initially, we were a bit disappointed with the car. Although it had only been driven for just over 10,000 km, it felt a bit old and was obviously a base model without features like a reversing camera or sensors. There was a long scratch on the left side of the car, but the customer service representative only noted a small damage at the front left. In reality, the scratch extended to the rear door. Since I had full coverage insurance excluding tires, I didn't bother to haggle over it!
The rental company is very punctual about the scheduled pick-up time. They won't let you pick up the car even 5 minutes early, which made me wait at the counter for almost 2 hours (because I arrived one flight earlier). Additionally, I booked a Mitsubishi Outlander but received a Hyundai i35 instead, which they called a free upgrade. I do not agree with this.
The service is quite satisfactory. There are a series of sales pitches when renting the car, but it's okay if you don't buy them. The staff is still very friendly. Returning the car is very convenient, just hand over the keys and you’re done. The RAV4 provided was very new, only had 15,000 kilometers on it, it’s a great car!
They offer Chinese service, which is very convenient. However, they charge 1 NZD from your credit card, stating it's to test your card, and they don’t refund it. It feels a bit strange, almost like forcibly collecting a tip (similar to going through customs in Southeast Asia).
They gave me a Nissan that's been driven for 100,000 kilometers, with a fuel consumption of 15L per 100km. It's unbelievable. And the rental staff kept asking if I wanted to buy a full tank of fuel! The experience was average.
At the time of pick-up, the rental company did not mention that we needed to clean the car, nor did they state that there would be a fee for not doing so. The counter staff indicated that the rental fee had been prepaid and there would be no additional charges. The credit card was only for a security deposit. They also mentioned that since we had purchased full insurance, there would be no need for a vehicle inspection upon return, just hand over the keys. We were very careful with the car and did not go to any particularly dirty places. The car was not dirty at the time of return, just in a normal condition after use. The rental company did not inspect the vehicle upon return nor asked us to confirm the car's condition. The counter staff asked if we had refueled, and we confirmed that we had. We asked if they needed to check, but the counter staff said it was not necessary.
However, as soon as we got off the plane, we found out Ezi had charged us NZD 255. Upon returning home, we contacted the rental platform, who informed us it was a cleaning fee! Ezi never mentioned this fee at any point. The counter's Chinese lady was very friendly and clear in her explanation, but why didn’t she mention the cleaning fee? This amount is enough for a full car polish. Please help us file a complaint with the rental platform. They asked us for evidence, but because there were no issues at the time of return, we had already deleted the photos. I want to ask, if there’s no inspection at pick-up or drop-off, why shouldn’t the party charging the fee provide the evidence?
I will continue to follow up on this issue with the rental platform. But a word of caution to future users, beware of the dishonest Ezi. Always keep photos of the car's interior and exterior for some time!
We arrived in Christchurch at 11 PM, and the Chinese staff member had already clocked out. We communicated with a guy with a beard for 15 minutes. He recommended that we pay an extra 122 NZD for a new Toyota, otherwise, we'd get an old Nissan with 180,000 kilometers on it. For safety and comfort, we reluctantly paid more, which was a bit frustrating. We picked up the car two hours earlier than the scheduled time, and the return time also had to be two hours earlier; otherwise, we would be charged an extra 59 NZD. This policy is unreasonable since we pay by the day.
The counter is in a very prominent location at the airport, along with other car rental companies. The procedures were very quick, but the car wasn't very new.
