The staff said there were no cars available and they needed to be arranged, which would take up to 25 minutes. However, I ended up waiting 45 minutes for the car. The staff's service attitude was acceptable.
The car was fine, but they were crazy about charging extra. I rented the cheapest model with a £1,000 deposit, returned it in perfect condition with a full charge, and they still deducted £250.
During the rental period, the car key was stolen in a different city. The rental company demanded a 350-euro fine. Their internal processes were very slow, which delayed the delivery of the spare key. It took a full four days to send the key from Paris to Paris, delaying the return of the car. This caused the contract to expire before the car could be returned, and they charged a high extension fee of 129 euros per day for six days. Very unreliable.
I rent cars in Europe for 200 days a year, and this car rental company is terrible. The counter clearly stated it was a deposit, but after returning the car and leaving Paris, they charged my credit card. When I asked the car rental company, they said it was for insurance. If I wanted insurance, wouldn't I have bought it at the counter? And they didn't even have my signature.
Despite all precautions, I was still charged over 1000 euros for insurance without my knowledge. Firstly, they added an additional driver fee of over 300 euros, and upon returning the car, they had me sign and charged me directly, even using the deposit to cover the insurance costs. It was extremely disappointing to be charged an extra 1000 euros for insurance on top of the full coverage I had already purchased. They even switched the car to a French model.
The car I collected did exceeded my expectations, it was a Fiat 500XL SUV. Really thankful for the slight upgrade to compact SUV.
However, the vehicle has a rather small boot space, exterior not cleaned and a dent probably cause by previous users. This did not affect the overall experience much, but would have been perfect if met.
I booked a compact Toyota Corolla or similar but Toyota Corolla was unavailable.
I thought getting the car could be faster. The counter staff kept recommending last minute add-ons(gas refuel service) and car upgrades(which could be nice if the price is even cheaper). Hence. Counter staff needs to be more efficient especially if there are long queues, please keep it under 20mins each customer.
Return car was swift and perfect! I also manage to kept the vehicle clean and refuelled the petrol, thereby no problem at all. The car return lady at NICE airport return centre was extremely efficient and friendly. Please pay more attention or treasure such staff. She is a Chinese national and she really made my day.
About QEEQ:10.0/10
The booking platform was easy to navigate and gave me the best deal I could find at the moment, partly due to the membership I had to sign up too.
Didn’t manage to experience the price drop protector.
QEEQ.COM could have been better if the insurance coverage is better communicated to the car rental company. After all, customer still need to verify again at the counter even though I bought the full insurance package. Why can’t it be reflected on the car rental company’s system when we completed our booking on QEEQ.COM?
It would be the best for customer if QEEQ.COM can actively be involved in insurance claim and remain reachable contact 24/7 support. Customer really need the peace of mind when travelling overseas, the support received(after service) is paramount after booking is done on your platform.
Even though I did not need to do any claim this time, a little effort to support your customers is always appreciated.
Avis in France is really terrible. The car I rented had no maintenance at all. After just two days, the brake pads had issues, grinding down to the metal discs. It was terrifying. I went to a nearby branch in a different city to see what could be done. They offered to replace the car, but only had manual transmission vehicles, which I couldn't drive. They then directed me to another location. I nervously drove the car with the faulty brakes to the next branch, where the staff didn't believe me at first. After a brief test drive, they agreed to switch the car. I asked if we needed a new contract, and they said they would email it to me. At the end of the rental period, I returned the car with a full tank and no damage. The staff said there were no issues and that the invoice would be emailed to me. After returning home, I found a charge of over 100 euros on my credit card. I never received the invoice, and only found out through the rental portal that the charge was for not returning the car with a full tank. I find this disgusting. When I appealed, they asked for evidence that the car had issues. How am I supposed to provide evidence of faulty brake pads? The car was replaced and the staff tested it. Shouldn't that be enough proof? Do they expect me to fill the tank before risking my life driving to an unfamiliar branch? Who compensates me for my time and fuel spent searching for a branch?
The process of picking up and returning the car was quite smart. The biggest issue is the lack of transparency in charges and non-standard procedures, which harm consumer rights. We initially completed and paid for our order on the app, where the terms were clearly readable. However, at the store, being unfamiliar with the area, we wanted three drivers to be able to drive the car. The staff registered the documents of the additional two drivers and charged our credit card a pre-authorization fee, claiming it was to cover potential damages or violations. After returning to our home country, we discovered that Rent-a-Car charged us an additional fee of about 200 euros (approximately 1500 RMB) for the extra drivers. (1) At the time of pickup, the staff did not inform us that adding drivers would incur a fee, nor the standard rates. (2) The rental contract was sent to our email simultaneously as we picked up the car, leaving no time to read or consider it beforehand. By the time we had questions, it was too late. (3) The entire process fails to protect consumer rights properly; the correct sequence should be informing consumers of the charges, providing the contract, and allowing time to review and agree before any charges. Instead, information is not proactively provided, and consumers only learn about the charges afterward.
“Poor car rental company and poorer booking company!”
About AVIS:5.0/10
The car was given without inspection. When complained, I was told to take picture such as no full tank or broken parts. The safety yellow jacket required by EU law was missing and I had to take a movie to show it wasn't there. At drop-off they tried to charge for missing fuel and I had to show the picture I took. Avoid Avis if possible.
