Very dissatisfied. I booked a BMW 3 Series, but they insisted on giving me a Japanese car. If I didn't want it, there was no other option. In the end, I had to settle for a BMW 5 Series at over 200 euros a day. Initially, they said it would be an extra 60 euros a day, but at checkout, it became an additional 120 euros a day. They said the 60 euros was a booking fee. So why mention 60 euros at all? There was only one staff member, and a long queue behind me, all urging me to hurry. I had no choice but to accept it! I ended up spending nearly 150 euros more per day!
“No pre-check in available so waiting 15 mins in terminal to arrange collection. On return poor signs”
About Budget:8.3/10
Pre check in so not having to spend 15.20 mins at airport reconfirming all my info which you already had on the booking. Poor information on return process... Office closed so had to go to terminal and then told to return to car park and put keys in drop box. No clear instructions and time wasted on my side
They added a glass insurance and roadside assistance without my consent, claiming they were necessary. They also pre-charged for fuel, and I haven't received my refund yet despite returning the car with a full tank.
The picture on the website did not reflect the car. I was expecting an Audi A3 saloon but instead Audi A3 compact. I would have preferred to have used the car I was expecting.
It was extremely slow. There were only two people ahead of us, but it took about an hour and a half from the start of the queue to getting our car keys.
Both renting and returning the car went smoothly. There was no push to buy insurance. We had a minor scratch when returning the car, but the staff didn't charge us for it, which was a relief.
Everything went smoothly with the rental and return. There are two issues to note: 1. The map indication for the Budget rental location in Madrid is incorrect. There is no rental point in the city center, only at the train station. Fortunately, I confirmed this a day in advance. Also, during the rental process, the car rental staff will inform you that the driving license translation provided by QEEQ is not legal in Spain. They can still rent to you, but if any issues arise, the police will treat it as driving without a license.
Good process. Satisfied with vehicle. However still waiting for funds to be returned back to bank account 10 days after drop off despite staff stating that everything was fine.
“Easy car rental process...as the company name says!”
About Budget:9.0/10
Car was great, they gave us a bigger car, small SUV. Paid more in tolls in Portugal as they count small SUV's as class 2, which means 3 times class 1, regular sedan! Also there was an additional airport charge.
I had booked the Volkswagen Touran, but seeing that there were 6 of us ( 4 ladies, which meant there would more shopping along the way, hehe) plus the amount of luggage we had, the lady at the counter was very helpful and gave us the more spacious Mercedes Vito. We had a very comfortable ride throughout our journey in Spain & Portugal, thanks to that lady at Budget.
1. The rental process is clear and well-organized. The return process is simple and fast.
2. The rental and return locations are very obvious and clear.
3. Deducted one star because the waiting time on the English helpline was long, and the customer service later hung up the phone. (Partly could be our bad phone signal)
When I picked up the car, it had only half a tank of fuel. I returned it with a full tank. The rental company acknowledged this but only refunded me 22.08 euros. I believe this is too little. I asked them to show me the basis for their refund calculation, and they said it was automatically calculated by the system and that they couldn't change the result. They suggested I file a complaint on their website afterward. Since it was quite late at the time, I had to accept the refund. The average fuel price in Madrid was 1.35 euros per liter at the time, which means their refund was only for 16 liters—far less than the cost of half a tank. I later negotiated with them through the rental platform for two months, but they insisted on not providing any further refund.
The car was in very good condition despite high mileage. It drove smoothly, indicating good maintenance. The front desk and return staff were very professional, dedicated, and had great attitudes. They patiently explained and introduced the services to me.
