The entire process went smoothly without any issues, and I received a brand new car. Remember to clean both the interior and exterior at the self-service car wash when returning the vehicle. Buying a €5 wash token from the machine is sufficient; don't buy extra since it’s non-refundable. Extra tokens can only be taken back home as souvenirs.
When returning the car, there was no inspection. They just took the keys and told me I could leave. Afterwards, they kept charging my credit card without notification, twice in total, amounting to over 1500 euros. I didn't receive any email detailing the charges either. I had already paid over 12,000 RMB for the rental, which included insurance. I hope the relevant authorities investigate this promptly and refund the charges.
“I will not use Europcar Frankfurt again. Europcar in Zuerich would have waved the additional charge”
About Europcar:6.0/10
My flight was delayed and because I did not give the flight number upon reservation, Europcar had already rented the car out to someone else. They told me it would be hours before I could get the class I booked again. They made me pay the difference for the next class up. Not happy.
About QEEQ:8.0/10
Was there a protection for this included in QEEQ's policy? We traveled because of a family emergency and it was tough being as on top of things as I normally am.
I bought the full insurance recommended by the rental car company, but the overseas rental company did not recognize it and forcibly charged me 205 euros for insurance, otherwise they wouldn't give me the car. When I contacted the rental car company, they said because I had signed it, they couldn't refund me. They push the insurance that isn't recognized overseas and do not resolve the issue, very disappointing.
I booked a Mercedes A-Class, and after checking the website, I found that equivalent cars were Audi A3 or Infiniti Q30. But when I arrived at the store, I was given a Volkswagen Golf (which is much cheaper according to the website, and I would have chosen that to save money). The store said it was because this Golf had higher specifications. Very frustrating, but since there was no other option and I had already paid, I had to accept it.
Due to changes in the pandemic situation, I was worried about travel restrictions when returning to Germany, so I wanted to contact the rental company for a different drop-off location. Although it was expensive (400 euros), the main issue was the customer service attitude. They were not accommodating at all; it felt like I owed them money and they were chasing me to return it to the agreed location. Customer needs changed due to the pandemic, and it's not like I wasn't paying the fee. They didn't need to make it so difficult for the customer.
1. Delayed car pickup with a bad attitude.
2. Numerous after-sales issues after returning the car, especially when booking through a third-party platform. They shirk responsibility and make unfounded charges, repeatedly charging misconduct service fees without any proof.
3. Many hidden issues: firstly, due to the domestic rental platform acting as a middleman, and secondly, neither the rental platform nor Avis could provide sufficient evidence for the so-called violations and violation management fees. Users are inexplicably charged on their credit cards! There is no way to complain or appeal!
The rental company charged an extra 250 euros without proper explanation. After contacting customer service, they canceled over 100 euros but still charged an extra 100 euros. It has been over ten days, and I still don’t know the reason for the extra charge. They provided a Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, which may or may not be in the same category as I booked, but it handled poorly. It felt unstable at high speeds, had very high fuel consumption (11-12 L/100km on the highway), and had significant wind noise. The fuel gauge was also faulty; it showed full after an hour and a half of driving, but then dropped quickly, barely lasting an hour on half a tank. Twice, I almost didn't make it to a gas station on mountain roads.
