Dissatisfied. The app didn't inform me that the second driver had to be at least 25 years old. My child is 22 with 4 years of driving experience, but they were not allowed to be an additional driver. As a result, I had to return the car 4 days early and it caused a lot of inconvenience!
Picked up the car at 8 AM. The Calgary airport branch wasn't busy, no queues, paperwork was processed quickly without pushing any insurance. Very satisfied.
It's not my first time renting a car in Vancouver. I've rented from both National and Alamo before. National, possibly because of its larger size, seems more arrogant. Alamo offers warmer service and provides more detailed instructions for pickup and return.
The entire process from car booking to return was smooth. Never had any issues. Pick up was fast. Got a Ford Fusion hybrid instead of the Chevy Malibu. Pro: Highly efficient car, so saved a lot on gas. Cons: Trunk space was limited so only able to store 2 luggages in the bag. Third luggage was at the back seat. Only had 2 of us so that was not an issue for us.
Picked up the car from Vancouver Airport. There are signs right outside the arrival gate, and many travelers heading to the rental car area; just follow them. There are ALAMO signs along the way too. Once in the parking lot, several rental companies share an office space. Find the appropriate counter, wait about 5 minutes, and the staff will indicate when it's your turn. Hand over the rental voucher from QEEQ, along with your credit card, passport, domestic driver's license, and translation (QEEQ offers this free service). After registration, they confirm your car type, pickup and drop-off locations, rental duration, and total cost. They might suggest adding local offerings like insurance, but since we already had full coverage from QEEQ, we declined and showed them the related notes in English. The staff didn't push further. After printing a new rental voucher and signing it, they directed us to the car. As we planned to cross the border to the USA, we proactively asked if this was allowed, and the answer was affirmative. We left the office, followed the ALAMO signs, and located the car. The entire process took less than 15 minutes - simple, efficient, and friendly service from ALAMO staff. The rental cost was 204 CAD with a 200 CAD deposit, credit card only (VISA or MasterCard).
Our trip to Canada and the USA included 14 days of car rental, 7 days in Vancouver and 7 days in Calgary. The 7-day Vancouver car rental review has already been completed and submitted to QEEQ. The Calgary rental experience was smoother and more proficient due to the prior practice in Vancouver. Remarkably, ALAMO only charged CAD 204 for the 7-day rental in Calgary and waived the deposit, showcasing their generosity. Of course, we remained diligent in safe driving and strictly adhered to traffic regulations to return the car in perfect condition and honor ALAMO's trust and friendliness.
Would not use again. 45 minute wait plus then giving me a car that wasn’t anywhere close to a Nissan Maxima as advertised. Was told that it’s in the terms and conditions and despite arguing the merits of a Dodge Charger vs a maxima they were unmoved. Will not use again.
Car was not fully clean on outside and had barely been cleaned in inside. Inside had footmarks all across the doors from previous hire
This is the third time I've rented a car from Alamo. It's excellent—quick and easy for both pick-up and return. Besides being affordable, they also offer an extra driver for free. Overall, this car rental company offers great value.
