Dislike: When we went to pick up the car which we had prepaid for the clerk was going to charge us an additional $200+ as a drop off charge. It was only my protest that caused her to check with her manager who waived this charge. As this was not even mentioned in the prepaid reservation I was shocked to first hear of it at pickup. This needs to be addressed in future rentals and it is an absurd charge. No one should have to pay that especially when you are quoted a specific cost for your total trip and prepay it.

At Orlando Airport, you can choose your own car with Alamo. However, at Vancouver Airport's Alamo, the car was pre-assigned, possibly due to the one-way rental. They gave us a Kia Sorento, which was very difficult to drive. The engine revved up to 6000 RPM during acceleration and still lacked power, much worse than a Ford EDGE. I recommend avoiding Hyundai and Kia for future rentals.

It was my first time renting a car overseas and I had a genuinely good experience with Alamo. I initially reserved a Ford Fusion, a large car for 4 people. Perhaps they saw we had more luggage, or maybe they didn’t have our reserved model. Either way, they upgraded us for free to a Dodge 7-seater MPV. It was a new car, with only over 1100 km on it. As a result, our trip in Vancouver was very smooth and enjoyable. Alamo definitely deserves 5 stars!

The car pickup process was relatively smooth. The staff asked us where we were headed and, upon learning we were going to Banff, suggested we upgrade the car because the mountain roads might be challenging. In reality, there weren't many mountain roads, and they were very easy to drive on—it was easy to accidentally speed. They also asked if we needed roadside assistance insurance, but we decided we could change a tire ourselves, so we didn't add it. When we picked up the car, it seemed like we got an upgrade to a Ford Focus, which was practically new (only 5000 km driven). We were so excited about the new car that we didn't thoroughly inspect it; the windshield had a small crack. Although it didn't affect driving, we were a bit worried, especially since it rained later. We contacted the rental company and QEEQ for reassurance, and they both told us not to worry and enjoy our trip. The car return was unexpectedly smooth, taking only a 30-second inspection mainly to check the fuel tank. Overall, this company was pretty good.

After I explained, they were very understanding and told me it was okay and I didn't need to pay extra. I was very touched, and the return process only took 6 minutes. The car was a local brand, had 40,000 kilometers on it, and was in good condition. Filling the tank cost about 65 CAD. When our language skills aren't very good, it's important to rely on the service quality and awareness of the rental staff. For this location, I felt the service person was just average. He was a middle-aged man who seemed eager to finish up by 6 PM. We arrived at 6 PM after getting our luggage and passing through customs, and he seemed a bit impatient. He also recommended the 'prepaid full tank option,' which we considered and agreed to, so we can't really blame him for that. Additionally, we showed him our three-year international driver's license obtained through the rental company, but he didn't recognize it and insisted on using their company's translation service. Fortunately, I had the foresight to apply for their translation service and had it printed out, which saved us a lot of trouble. Otherwise, it would have been a real mess (which made us quite unhappy and frustrated).

When I rented a car on the Zuzuche website, I carefully read the site’s introduction and knew that the store would try to sell additional insurance. My English isn't very good, but the store’s service attitude was alright. Before signing the contract, the agent showed me an explanation about the extra insurance, which included a Chinese translation. However, the translation was done directly from English, and frankly, even as a native Chinese speaker, I couldn’t understand it. I asked the service agent if it was mandatory; he said yes, so I agreed. Then he printed out a contract for me to sign, and I realized it included the additional insurances mentioned on the Zuzuche website, which I originally didn’t want to buy. I told him I didn’t want any extra insurance, so he had to print a new contract for me. I booked a Chevrolet but got a Buick Excelle, similar to the car I drive at home, so it was easy to handle. However, being the first time driving abroad, I was a bit nervous. I drove around the airport area for a while, and after a few days, I felt that driving in Canada is mostly similar to driving at home. When finally available to process the car rental, they claimed they couldn't understand the bilingual confirmation form. Just because the Chinese characters were larger than the English ones, they insisted I read the confirmation number in English, at a slow pace. When we went to pick up the car, we had already completed the rental process and printed out the car rental order from China. However, the procedure took over 20 minutes. After paying the remaining balance and signing the documents, the agent was about to leave the counter. While organizing our documents, I realized my international driver's license translation was missing. We called the agent, but he ignored us. We searched through all possible luggage but couldn't find it. When we asked other staff members to help us locate the agent who assisted us, they informed us he had already left for the day. We insisted on reviewing the surveillance footage and finally discovered that my international driver's license translation was stuck underneath the computer keyboard. We wasted almost an hour at the pick-up location. There was no warm service, only frustration and anger!

There was only one person in line when picking up the car, so the process was quite fast. Initially, they gave me the wrong car, a Ford FLEX, which was also large but smaller than the Suburban. I estimated that the luggage space wouldn't be sufficient, so they changed it after I pointed it out. They strongly recommended the roadside assistance plan, which costs 7 CAD per day. I hadn't intended to buy it, but considering the mountain roads, I bought it for peace of mind. In the end, I didn't need to use it. When returning the car, I was charged a late fee. After disputing it, the fee was waived. Although I did return the car about ten minutes late, the staff had indicated that up to an hour would be fine, which is why I was a bit late. Next time, I'll make sure to return it on time. My agreement was to return the car with a full tank, but the gas station attendant didn't fill it completely, which wasn't really my fault as I had asked him to fill it up. Fortunately, there was no penalty.

Picked up the car from Vancouver Airport. There are signs right outside the arrival gate, and many travelers heading to the rental car area; just follow them. There are ALAMO signs along the way too. Once in the parking lot, several rental companies share an office space. Find the appropriate counter, wait about 5 minutes, and the staff will indicate when it's your turn. Hand over the rental voucher from QEEQ, along with your credit card, passport, domestic driver's license, and translation (QEEQ offers this free service). After registration, they confirm your car type, pickup and drop-off locations, rental duration, and total cost. They might suggest adding local offerings like insurance, but since we already had full coverage from QEEQ, we declined and showed them the related notes in English. The staff didn't push further. After printing a new rental voucher and signing it, they directed us to the car. As we planned to cross the border to the USA, we proactively asked if this was allowed, and the answer was affirmative. We left the office, followed the ALAMO signs, and located the car. The entire process took less than 15 minutes - simple, efficient, and friendly service from ALAMO staff. The rental cost was 204 CAD with a 200 CAD deposit, credit card only (VISA or MasterCard).
