Both pickup and return went smoothly, but two weeks after returning the car, I noticed an inexplicable charge of 60 euros for fuel and service fees. I immediately sent the return report and fuel receipt to the rental company, but it's been over ten days and still no resolution. Not sure if this is personal deceit by the staff or an intentional act by the rental company.
I clearly stated on my phone that I did not want any additional services, but I was unknowingly charged for insurance. This is outrageous and unacceptable! My friend rented a car from another company, Europcar, and also faced pressure to buy insurance. She asked me to translate her refusal, and although the representative was not pleased, they did not charge her for insurance. Hertz’s behavior is infuriating and disgusting! The female staff member clearly nodded and understood my request for no insurance, but the final bill still included over 300 euros for insurance.
The staff had very heavy accents, which made communication difficult despite their generally good attitudes. There were about 3 people in front of us, and we waited in line for half an hour. The most serious issue is that this Hertz location in Madrid overcharges customers, so be cautious. We picked up the car a few hours earlier than scheduled, and the staff used this as an excuse to charge us for an additional day (despite us already having prepaid the full amount). Initially, we thought the extra day displayed on the receipt was just indicating our rental period, but the staff never explained this issue, nor did they tell us that picking up the car a few hours early would incur an extra day's charge. We could've waited. Furthermore, we purchased their super cover insurance (which comes with an additional 21% tax), and they included the extra day's rental fee in the insurance tax calculation. When handing over the car, they told us that only the insurance fee would be deducted, with no further explanation of any additional charges. When we followed up with the rental platform, they initially said, 'Hertz over there said you were charged for returning the car late,' and later changed their story to, 'You were charged for picking up the car early.' We rented the car for approximately 81 hours, less than four days, but were overcharged by more than 90 euros. We've rented from Hertz before and never had such an issue. This time we've paid for a very bitter lesson. A severely bad review.
Had to wait a long time while picking up the car and didn't know where to leave the keys when returning it at the airport the next morning, which caused a delay.
Quite disappointing. First, they didn't inform us that we couldn't drive a Mercedes, even though the system clearly showed it was available. Second, the gas station was quite far, and since the gas tank was one bar short, they charged us for a full tank. It seems like they are desperate to make money.
Upon arrival, I found out that the local area does not accept notarized Chinese driving licenses. After 3 hours of negotiation, I finally rented a car from another company, which seriously affected my schedule!

About Hertz:6.0/10
Honestly, the service was just average. I bought full insurance through Zuzuche, but they still tried to sell me their own insurance, explaining how much I might have to pay if there was an accident. The car they provided was quite old and had many scratches, so make sure to check it thoroughly.
Like: The car experience was great. Dislike: When I tried to drop off the car at Gare St-Charles Tgv in Marseille at Wednesday 22 August at about 7.00 pm, the employer at the desk was really rude. He insulted me, he didn't speak English ("You are in France, you should speak French"), and he didn't answer any of my questions. It was really disturbing.
They said they close at 12pm, but when we arrived at 11am, no one was there. When we picked up the car, they upgraded us without informing, due to the language barrier we didn't know. We booked for 3800 on QEEQ, but at the rental company it became over 6000; it felt like we were completely scammed because of the language barrier.
1. When I picked up the car in Seville, my flight was delayed. Because of this, the staff at Hertz at Seville Airport gave my reserved BMW 1 Series to someone else and only had an Alfa Romeo left. It's not my fault that the flight was delayed, is it? 2. I was not satisfied with the car Hertz gave me. It was clearly of a lower class than the BMW. I wanted a BMW 1 Series because the streets in the old town of Spain are very narrow, and I needed a small car. Instead, I got a big car. Driving through the narrow streets of Seville's old town, rushing for 120 kilometers, and having to find spots to let others through in one-car-only streets was a nightmare. I’m not a bad driver; I have 10 years of experience and just didn't want any trouble abroad. 3. The most important issue was that the staff pushed me to buy insurance but didn't inform me about the refueling policy. Because of this, I had to pay for a full tank of gas when returning the car. Excuse me? I contacted QEEQ customer service online, and they told me to report it to Hertz, which was clearly shirking responsibility. Can you imagine being alone abroad and feeling helpless? Shouldn't QEEQ, where I made my reservation, take full responsibility? The receipt from the staff was entirely in Spanish, and I had to find a friend to translate it late at night. I did not agree to the full tank policy. If they had told me about it, I wouldn't have let them do this. My English is fine, and they never mentioned this. The usual policy is to take the car with a full tank and return it the same way. Otherwise, you'll be charged a high fuel fee because the car rental company needs to pay extra labor costs to refuel the car, and labor is expensive abroad. Charging for a full tank upfront should be an optional service, and refueling it yourself before returning the car is more economical. The fact that they did this makes me think there’s something dodgy going on at that branch since they can price the fuel themselves and charge a high labor fee. This was the worst customer service experience I've ever had with a rental car. I have to be honest, even if I risk not getting the 600 RMB rental coupon for a good review.
I arrived a bit early to pick up the car and was told I could only get another car by paying extra. When it was my scheduled time, the car still hadn't arrived, which basically meant they couldn't provide my car on time and tried to upsell me. The car finally arrived 20 minutes after my scheduled pick-up time.
The return address was also incorrect, which caused me to wander around for a long time. Despite filling up the tank, they claimed it was slightly under and charged me 36 euros. A full tank costs just over 50 euros, and they wanted to charge 36 euros for a tiny discrepancy. It's outrageous.
