The vehicle looked great in the photos shown, however on closer inspection it had small scratches and dents.
The staff member was ( prompt) showing me a handful of wide angle pictures but no close ups revealing damage.
Most of the transfers I have done have a system where you get a drawing of the vehicle and ALL damage is marked on inspection.
This let's the driver point out any unforseen blemishes etc.
To be honest there was nothing noted
and that left me feeling vulnerable.
I made sure I filmed the vehicle and pointed out all the marks, dents, blemishes.
At the return desk in Greymouth the counter lady was nice and polite, but qestions were raised about one one small dent by the fuel flap.
I showed my video footage at Christchurch Airport and any pictures that detailed the small ding.
In my opinion there was lack of communication. All the damage should be photographed and logged in the system so staff can identify past damage.
The reason I am pointing this out is because I've done more then 40 transfers for transfer car and not experienced this before.
Apart from that, happy with the overall experience.

The service was excellent. With the order, the procedures were completed within about 10 minutes; the vehicle was very new with just over 18,000 kilometers; returning the car was also very convenient. As soon as I parked and unloaded my luggage, an employee came to inspect the vehicle and printed the receipt on the spot. Had I known returning the car was this easy, I wouldn't have arrived at the airport so early.

I booked a Toyota RAV4 with basic insurance for 15 days through Zuzuche at the total price of 1355.85 NZD. When I went to pick up the car in Christchurch, I showed the Zuzuche order. The Budget representative glanced at it briefly, then added full insurance on their own initiative and billed me in USD. The final price was 1504.25 USD. You can calculate the difference. Why didn't they follow the order and use local currency for billing? Everyone can understand the reason. After I questioned them, they responded rudely, saying either rent with these terms or go somewhere else. There were other details, but to keep it short, stand up for your rights in such situations. In the end, they had to follow my original order, note the final price in NZD, and we settled in cash to avoid the 2% credit card fee. This experience is for my fellow Chinese to avoid being overcharged by these foreign companies. It's better to deal directly with local companies in New Zealand. Don't trust big names like Avis, Hertz, or Budget, as many Chinese have been overcharged this way. Also, avoid intermediary platforms; book directly on the rental company's website.

Picking up and dropping off the car right at the airport is very convenient. The Hyundai IMAX 8-seater we rented was very spacious and new, comfortably seating six adults, though it lacked power going uphill, which we had anticipated. The staff at Budget were friendly and the pickup process was quick. Highly recommended!

The service attitude was excellent. The staff gave a detailed introduction to traffic rules and local maps when I picked up the car. They also provided three car choices, and I was lucky to select a new 2015 model with only 5700 kilometers driven. Dropping off the car at a different location was also very quick and convenient.

I rented a RAV4 from Budget, and the car was about 80% new and in very good condition. Both the interior and exterior were well-maintained, and the vehicle's performance was great. However, the additional insurance fee was too high. We added comprehensive insurance, which cost more than half the rental fee. If the insurance costs were lower, I'd definitely recommend it more strongly.

I rented a car for 12 days. On the 14th day, I found a thumb-sized bubble on the tire and wanted to know how to properly resolve it. The car rental store did not answer the phone, and the company’s customer service was unresponsive after several attempts. I had no choice but to drive to the Queenstown airport store for a solution. The service staff quickly handled the car exchange without mentioning any cost. However, when I returned the car at Christchurch Airport on April 29, the company charged my credit card without explanation. When I asked the store for an explanation, they said it was for the tire replacement fee and gave me a phone number and email to contact the company. This way of handling the situation is unacceptable. Issues: 1. The cost was not mentioned when exchanging the car. 2. The responsibility and cost for the tire issue were not explained but directly charged without prior notice. Better service is needed, especially in providing Chinese language support to avoid communication barriers.

We booked a Prado model on the website, but the rental company couldn't provide it at the store and couldn't offer a car of the same class. We had to settle for a Chevrolet or a five-seater Toyota RAV4. Although they offered compensation by allowing us to return the car without a full tank of gas, we didn't think this was an equivalent compensation for the following reasons: On the day we arrived, three groups of Chinese customers had also booked the Prado model, but none of them got the car. We suspect the company lowers the price of the Prado to attract bookings but then claims it's unavailable upon arrival, offering lower-class cars instead without equivalent compensation. If we had booked the RAV4 earlier, we wouldn't have chosen this rental company because other companies are obviously cheaper. The rental platform said the company quotes the same price for these two models, but anyone who understands can see that these two cars can't be priced the same.

(1) On November 26, 2018, when returning the car at the airport, BUDGET was understaffed and I had to wait for over 30 minutes. (2) When I returned the car on November 26, I informed the BUDGET staff about a minor scratch on the left side of the vehicle, and they said it was fine. However, on November 27, 2018, 5280.58 NZD was deducted from my credit card. After subtracting the rental balance of 818.01 NZD payable at the BUDGET counter at the New Zealand airport, I don't understand what the remaining 4462.57 NZD was for. Was it a penalty for the scratch? The charges were completely unclear. It felt like robbery. I never want to rent from BUDGET again. (3) There were too many entrances to the return car park, and there was no clear map. It was easy to make mistakes and have accidents. I entered the wrong parking lot and was forced to pay a 10 NZD parking fee.

They provided me with a Hyundai Tucson with 32,666 km on it. Surprisingly, it was fully equipped with keyless entry and start, heated seats, tri-zone automatic climate control, lane keeping assist, adaptive cruise control (these two features are really helpful for first-time right-hand drivers, as the car tended to veer left initially), pre-collision warning, steering assist, and rear cross-traffic alert. Apart from the lack of a 360-degree camera, it had everything.
There are many winding roads in the South Island, and local drivers take corners very quickly.

Overall, I was quite satisfied with the service. Although the car provided was not the one I had reserved, it suited our travel needs perfectly. The interior space was quite large, comfortably accommodating four people, and we had a lot of luggage. The third row seats were ideal for small bags and backpacks. The service was terrible, and they charged arbitrary fees. There was no mention of these charges before renting or upon arrival at the store. They demanded additional fees for adding a driver and charged a roadside assistance fee even though we declined their insurance because we already had coverage. They just handed over an app for signing without explaining the contract details, leaving out crucial information knowing that our English wasn't perfect.
