Pick-up Instructions

The Apex - Christchurch Airport car hire location is located out of the airport

Please contact the staff to pick you up to Apex - Christchurch Airport car hire when you arrived.

Upon arrival at Christchurch International Airport, check your email for arrival and pick up instructions. Walk through the terminal, past the check-in counters and look for door numbers 1 or 2. Exit the building out either door. The shuttle pick up point is located to the right just passed the pink 'Park and Ride' sign. On the email you will see a 'Ready to Collect' button. When you are ready to be collected, simply tap/click the 'Ready to Collect' button. If you do not receive the email please phone our toll free number 0800 400 121 and let us know that you're ready to be picked up. When the van arrives, our driver will load your luggage into the back of the van or into a trailer. Please tell the driver your name and show him your confirmation (if required). Our location is two minutes drive from the airport terminal. The branch will be closed at 6:29 pm, and the last shuttle bus will depart from the terminal at 6:15 pm, if you miss it, please take a taxi to the branch. The car shouldn’t be allowed on the road. It’s been in multiple accidents and the brakes don’t work properly. Not safe at all. I can’t believe this is ok. I had to leave a week early and of course no refunds so I paid a premium per day for a car that shouldn’t be on the road. Literally parts are falling off the car! The shuttle arrangement was at the inconvenient end of the airport (opposite from where you come out when arriving from overseas); this appears to be the same for all shuttles. Then it took quite a while for the first shuttle to arrive, and it filled with people who were there before us. So we had to wait another 10 minutes or so, in cold wind, before our turn.

Good Part: it was good to have the quick traffic rule test, so that we could discuss some areas that we are unfamiliar with local rules. Bad part: customer service was bad. One lady, not the person handling our return, announce the tyre damage to the whole floor, which was unnecessary and inappropriate for customer privacy. I was charged 2000nzd for the tyre damage. I asked for a more accurate estimate on spot and a male staff said 500 is enough. The officer handling my case told him to "f... off". For the refund of excess charge, I wrote in a few times for bank transfer instead of credit card refund to avoid the hefty exchange charges, but the requests were simply ignored.

The car was exceptionally great! The location for pickup and the price was great. The staff that was handling us was terrible. From the moment we reached here counter, she was unhappy and getting agitated without any reason, and the way she talked to us was rude. It was obvious she is avoiding minimum communication with us, whenever I asked any questions it’s mostly’yes’ or ‘no’. We were unfortunately enough to see here again when we dropped of the car, and it was obvious on the treatment. Right before us was another group of people who is of her ethnicity, and she asked how they we go from the rental place and she even catered a taxi for them. When it came to us, she did a quick check and said in a grumpy manner ‘ok, done, good bye’ and chased us of. The next person she approached, she gave a very good service by asking them how they are going off and laughing. Apex needs to look into this matter and train that particular staff to at least act decently and with equally treatment in front of the customers. Apart from this the other aspects were good.

The pickup point is a 5-minute drive from the airport. After arriving at the airport, we called the car rental company, and they asked us to wait in the airport waiting area for a shuttle. The customer service does not speak Chinese, but their attitude was good. Pickup efficiency was low, waited for over 30 minutes. The car was average with over 60,000 kilometers. Another car rented from Thrifty had only over 10,000 kilometers, and the pickup efficiency was very high, got it in 5 minutes.

I don't understand why QEEQ partners with this car rental company. Check the reviews on Google; they are seriously discriminatory against Asians. Our experience was terrifying. Although the staff we encountered were not severely discriminatory, they were extremely slow. It took over an hour to process, and even though we had already paid in full, they attempted to charge us again. We had to find another staff member to confirm our payment. Additionally, they aggressively pushed insurance, even though we had already bought comprehensive coverage. Overall, it was a horrifying experience.

This company has serious issues with customer treatment; be cautious when renting. We rented for 9 days and bought full insurance, but due to improper parking, the front of the car was damaged. They deducted 2000 SGD from us, plus over 500 SGD for the rental fee which wasn't refunded. Eventually, they refused to provide a new car and wanted to kick us out. This made our entire trip in New Zealand very unpleasant, and the cost of renting another car was significantly higher.
