The pick-up station was located conveniently within the Launceston Airport and the staff were very professional in helping me check out the car and in guiding me.
When I rented the car, I added a GPS, thinking it was integrated into the car. So I took the keys and went straight to the car, only to find out later that the GPS was a separate device rented at the counter.
The employee at the rental counter didn't give me the GPS device even though I was charged for it, causing me to spend 30 minutes looking for it in the car. After asking nearby staff, I learned that the GPS is a separate device and needs to be collected at the counter. I had to run back to the rental counter where the embarrassed employee admitted they forgot to give it to me, wasting my time.
It turned out the car had Apple CarPlay, which I connected to my phone, allowing me to use Baidu/Google Maps. This was much more reliable than the rented GPS, which I ended up not using at all, wasting the GPS rental fee.
All good and an easy process. Expected a Mitsubishi ASX and received a Nissan Qashqui. Loved the car. There was a small mark on the door when we picked up the car, but the guys said very minor issues are not a problem. This put our minds at rest. There was a bit of a push to buy additional cover (which was unnecessary). We were going to the Great Ocean Road for 2 days then skiing for 3. Snow cover would have to be paid for the full tenure of the hire, not just for the days needed. So we didn't take it. This would be improved to cover only the needed for the time and we may have purchased it.
“Overall experience was terrible due to overcharging and non-response by Budget”
About Budget:2.0/10
Budget charged me refueling even though I opted for pre-paid fuel which required no refueling when returning car.
I wrote in to Budget, case no: KMM2060088V18784L0KM to enquire and was informed that the extra amount of about AUD$300 was due to refueling charge.
I then explained that I was not required to fill up and provided the rental document and rental brochure as evidence.
Budget did not reply and further requests for clarification were not responded to as well.
