1. Many flights from China arrive at night, resulting in a large number of people renting cars and long lines, but only two counters were open.
2. The staff seemed to push for purchasing a toll pass, but there's no toll for self-driving in the western US.
We rented cars three times during our trip to the US and Canada, and this was the best by far. Our reserved SUV was unavailable, so we were upgraded to an 8-seat minivan. The car was very new and well-equipped. I was initially worried that the car would be too large to handle easily, but it had excellent power and a 360-degree camera, making parking and reversing very convenient. The best part was that even when fully loaded, the trunk space was still huge. I actually thought about buying one when we got back.
1. The shuttle bus stop at the airport was not clearly marked. We had to push our luggage around the area and only when we saw a small bus with the company logo did we realize where the stop was.
2. The rental location is actually quite a distance from the airport, not as close as described, so you should plan to spend an extra half-hour to pick up the car.
3. The place for car exchange was even more bizarre. It's in a garage with no signs and nobody knew about it. We almost missed our flight wandering around the garage. By the way, when exchanging the car, the staff just drove it away without any paperwork.
4. The final rental bill deducted $74 from my card. When I asked about the charges, I was told it was for emergency assistance and highway fees. I was speechless.
This was the worst rental experience I've had abroad. When I arrived, they told me my reserved car was not available and I had to upgrade to a Camry for an extra $20 per day. After negotiating for over ten minutes, I had no choice but to accept. The ordeal didn't stop there; they forced me to buy various insurances and wouldn't give me the car unless I did. I ended up paying $323.5 in total just to get the car.
My two car rental experiences at Atlanta Airport over the span of three weeks were the worst I've had in many years. The first time with SIXT, they didn't accept credit cards without a chip, and it took several hours to sort everything out. This time with Advantage, it took almost 3 hours in total. We waited for two hours at the counter with a long queue and only two staff members who did nothing to speed things up. After finally finishing the paperwork, we went downstairs to pick up the car and waited another hour in the cold, windy weather at around 4-5 degrees Celsius. The staff were rude, and there were only two of them, one of whom was barely working. Some customers even canceled their reservations on the spot due to the staff's attitude and service quality. I couldn’t afford to do that after the previous credit card issue and the long wait, so I just endured it.
Europcar and Advantage share the same location. I took the Advantage shuttle to the site, where both companies are separated, but you can process your rental at either one. The staff even used a translator to assist with any confusion, which was very considerate.
The rental service at the company's store is managed by an EZ company counter. I used to think Europcar was pretty good, hence I chose this company. EZ has a lot of negative reviews online, and the staff we dealt with were quite indifferent. I won't rent from Europcar again.
The rental company had few people, so picking up the car was quick. The model I initially booked was unavailable, so they provided a replacement when I picked it up.
