Thrifty didn’t have a hybrid car when I came for pick up. They offered a full size car. I don’t want to wait any longer due to long flight plus time zone difference. The receipt shows a few dollars more than the reservation. I am okay with it. The car is in good condition and very clean.
However, when I returned the car, I got a receipt that charged double the reservation amount. The per day rate went up to $45 instead of $30 at reservation. I was in rush catching up the flight, that had no time to argue with Thrift. Very annoyed.

There was no proper queuing system at the Thrifty shuttle pick up point.
We had 8 pieces of luggage (inc car seat and pram) and it was impossible for us to get on the shuttle bus that takes us from the Thrifty drop off office to LAX.
The buses that came were either full or people have no consideration that we arrived first.
We ended up having to call UberXL.

The person at the counter insisted that I had to purchase a full tank of gas, and that it was part of the promotion of getting a Ford Fusion. Easyrentcars did not state that and it was not required, but when I told the staff person I would fill up myself, he insisted that he would have to give me a different car. I kept the Ford Fusion and signed the contract with the added cost of a full tank of gas. Then when I went to get the car at the garage, I asked them about the promotion that required me to purchase the gas, and they were totally dumbfounded. They redid the contract without the gas, but still ended up charging almost $20 more then the price quoted by Easyrentcars.com. i had them re-do the price when I returned it, but the whole process was an attempt by Thrifty to not honor the price that was quoted.

I needed to extend the rental by a day and when I called in the first agent told me it would triple my rate. I declined as I still had to confirm I needed it and when I called back in they were able to honor the original promo price. Seems a little scammy to me or uninformed agents. Other than that I got a great deal on the car and it was a nice vehicle.

During the rental period with this company, some toll fees were not settled through the rental company but were instead billed to the address on the driver's license by the toll department. We incurred a toll fee of just over $3, which the rental company did not settle for us. The bill was sent to an address in our home country that we do not frequently stay at. Each time the toll department sent the bill, it added additional fines, and by the time we saw it, the fine had increased to $100. We resolved this by negotiating via email with the U.S. toll department, which finally waived the fines. This kind of issue does not happen with other large rental companies and is very prone to causing problems.

The service attitude was good but very slow; we waited a long time. The key issue is the online price was over $150, but at the store, the price was over $360, saying I had to pay an additional $200 for insurance. I upgraded to a compact car, Corolla, for a total of $400! Originally, a friend had booked a mid-size car from National, including insurance, for $250 through another channel. I canceled the friend’s booking thinking your price was cheaper. This is truly a rip-off!

I arrived in San Francisco already feeling exhausted. When renting the car from Thrifty, the staff told me that I must buy third-party liability insurance as required by California law. I ended up spending half an hour on the phone with the domestic rental car service. Some representatives said it wasn't necessary, while others said to pay it first and discuss later. The inconsistency in information was very poor, wasting much of my time. Ultimately, due to my firm stance, they temporarily did not charge me for the third-party liability insurance.

They tried to sell extra insurance at pickup. Make sure to carefully check for any additional charges before signing. Just insist you don't need it, and it will be fine. The car's condition was good, it was a fuel-efficient, lightweight Japanese car, and the speed was decent. Returning the car took only a minute.

1. Initially, the agent did not accept our Chinese driver's license with the translation (provided by ZuzuCar). After consulting with a supervisor, they finally allowed us to pick up the car but warned that this was a one-time exception.
2. When returning the car, the driver of the first (empty) shuttle refused to let us board, telling us to wait for the next one. The second shuttle took a long time to arrive, and the driver was more interested in chatting with local passengers, driving slowly, causing us to miss our flight. We were stuck at the airport for 24 hours.
3. We were given a full tank of gas and told to return the car with a full tank. A week later, we received a billing notice saying we prepaid $70 for a tank of gas?! We returned it with a full tank!!! Not booking with them again.

The WORST rental car experience I have ever had! 1) Added an emergency road service with extra charges to my order without clear notification at the pickup. Finally ended up with USD 62 more than the original order! 2) The vehicle was a very old Hyundai Elantra (if not a Toyota, it should be a Hyundai Sonata)---poor conditions with high mileage (over 40 thousand miles). This is the worst rental car experience I have ever had! They added an emergency road service at pickup without clearly informing me, resulting in an additional charge of 62 USD. The car was supposed to be a Toyota Corolla, but it was an old Hyundai Elantra with high mileage and poor conditions. If it had to be a Hyundai, it should have been a Sonata, not an Elantra. I swear I will never choose Thrifty again.

Even though they knew we were a group of six, they gave us a seven-seater car without a rear trunk. The car I received was just a so-called similar model, definitely not an Infiniti! The waiting time at Thrifty Car Rental in the US for processing the return is counted as delayed return. Their pick-up and drop-off procedures are cumbersome, with long queues. It all seems like a trap! Zuzuche platform, please inform customers who are about to rent from Thrifty in the US that this company has fee traps in their pick-up, drop-off, and toll payment services. They keep pushing insurance and additional products when picking up the car, and the attitude becomes extremely rude if you don't buy. They deliberately delay the return processing time to charge an extra day's late fee!

Overall, I'm quite satisfied. The car was in great condition, it was a new model X3 with strong power and quick acceleration (probably because the car is relatively light). The onboard GPS was very useful. Important to note: The counter staff will still offer additional paid items such as insurance and prepaid fuel. I had already purchased insurance when I rented the car, the likelihood of needing glass and tire insurance is low unless you are in an area with poor security (like an incident near my home where a car window was smashed and robbed). Generally, you don't need it, especially if you're staying in a hotel. Prepaid fuel is also unnecessary; many gas stations are cheap, and it's unlikely you will use up a full tank right when returning the car.
