The service staff was very friendly. The first car reserved for me wasn't cleaned, and the second one couldn't be found, so they upgraded me to a small SUV for free. Although it wasn't cleaned yet, an employee promised to take care of it immediately, and within 3 minutes, he brought the freshly cleaned car to me. Since I returned the car 12 hours ahead of schedule, I couldn't get the invoice on-site, but received it via email the next day in PDF format.
I can understand not having the SUV I reserved and agreed to a replacement, but don't substitute it with a regular sedan.
Return process is inconvenient
The car was in excellent condition and very new, with less than 500 kilometers on it, so there was a noticeable leather smell. The pickup location was hard to find, with no clear signs or directions. I had to search and ask around in pouring rain and eventually found it above the HERZE building.
Overall it was good, but the directions to the return location were terrible. We couldn't find it using GPS and spent over 40 minutes circling the airport before we found it.
This rental company is a scam. We were attended by an African American woman. After we submitted our pick-up form, she insisted that we pay an additional $12 per day to get an SUV, otherwise, we would have to wait and couldn't get the car right away. We had already rented an SUV! Our scheduled pick-up time was 9:00 AM, but it was already 11:00 AM by then. After waiting for half an hour, she said the car was available but insisted we buy a $129 monthly toll pass. We called our friends in New York, who told us it was unnecessary as you can pay cash on the toll road, and we wouldn't need it for our short trip. In the end, we didn't buy it. In reality, during our four days in New York, Boston, and Philadelphia, we only paid less than $40 in tolls. Furthermore, the car we eventually picked up had been parked right there the whole time. They made us wait on purpose to scam us. Shameful.
The fuel charges weren't clarified with the previous staff, and they didn't contact the previous store, wasting my time to confirm. This ultimately caused me to miss my flight.
The staff was friendly, but the car quality was really bad! JFK gave me a Yaris Sedan with four spare tires. It was quite a hassle! When I returned the car in VA, the guy there even laughed at me.
Europcar doesn't have its own counter and uses A's. Though there were few people, there were numerous upsells. They said regardless of heading north or south from the airport, you'll hit toll roads, and if you don't pay, you'll be fined 25 dollars. Just a lot of upselling.
