Overall satisfactory, had to queue at New York airport for the staff to bring each car over, which took some time. The car was very new, only a few thousand kilometers, easy to drive, and returning the car was convenient. Overall a good experience.
When it was my turn to pick up the car, the staff had already left for the day. They didn't care about the customers still in line. I had to go to the garage to get the car myself without any inspection. The car was quite old, with 60,000 kilometers on it.
The rental car agent did not give included liability insurance which was listed in the booking. You should fix this issue. Every time I rent, they deny the liability insurance included in the booking and charge extra over the counter.
The staff was unprofessional. They added highway fees, child seat fees, and a second driver fee during pickup. However, the receipt did not include the child seat. Later, when we went to the store, they said we had canceled the highway fee. The experience was very poor. The car's front right side was damaged, and we were not informed. Luckily, we discovered it ourselves, documented it, and it was not blamed on us in the end.
Renting the car was convenient, but returning it was very inconvenient. Although we were told that we could return the car after working hours, the garage was closed, causing us significant trouble in the middle of the night. We had to pay for parking ourselves and wait until the next morning when the office opened to return the car. This was really unsatisfactory.
We used Hertz for car rental in New York this time. The staff at pickup asked very detailed questions, which left us a bit confused, so we asked our daughter to help translate. It seemed like the platform needed to confirm the insurance details with us again. Although the staff had to repeat information, they were thorough, patient, and answered all our questions. Such a great service attitude. Returning the car was very simple, just leave the keys inside and park it as instructed. We passed through many toll roads while driving and asked about it. The staff said if we accept email billing, we can just leave. Otherwise, we need to patiently wait in line to handle it on-site. It really relies on trust and honesty.
Initially they gave me a Kia K5, but after a long discussion, they provided a Nissan Altima. However, the car was quite old, and the seats were very dirty, which is a major downside. I am quite detail-oriented, and this experience was much worse than renting a car domestically.
