Car (camaro) has mechanical issues (steering/wheel alignment issues and was overdue for service by 5,000miles) meaning it was dangerous when driving on motorways above 60mph.
Swapped the car at Las Vegas the next day. No customer service. Didn’t have a replacement so had to go with a four door even though we had especially booked an American muscle car for our honeymoon. Very disappointed with hertz and wouldn’t bother booking a car with them again given lack of customer service. Had a much better and smoother experience with Dollar.

The car requested was not available.
After a lot of discussion with managers, we were eventually given a cabriolet as originally requested which was good.
Then halfway through our hire, the front wheel tyres required replacing. Hertz were very good in authorisation of this but we had to go a hundred mikes out of our way and a different route as originally planned to get new tyres put on. The car should have had new tyres from the beginning.
I felt that our safety had been compromised

At the counter, there were no prompts or explanations; the representative only mentioned that a credit card is needed for the deposit. I didn't think much of it at the time, but after returning the car and getting back home, I found out they had charged me over $500. Upon checking the bill, I realized they had purchased all the insurance options for me. So, everyone, please be careful. When picking up the car, not only should you be wary of the sales staff pushing extras while you're in line, but also make sure the counter staff explain all the charges when swiping your card. It's easy to fall into a big trap if you're not cautious.

When I showed the English version of the electronic pickup voucher, the Hertz staff said that theft protection (THEFT PROTECTION) and additional driver charge (ADDITIONAL DRIVER CHARGE) were not included. They strongly suggested I add uninsured motor protection, warning me that if I were involved in an accident with an uninsured driver, I would have to cover the losses myself. So, I had to buy uninsured motor protection for $6.99 per day, totaling $20.97.

Hertz is a few kilometers away from Los Angeles airport. The queue wasn't too long, but they did try to upsell. I booked a mid-sized SUV like a Toyota Rav4 or a similar model, but they said Rav4 or Ford Escape would cost extra. Initially, they gave me a Jeep SUV with over 30,000 miles, which seemed to be a Compass. I didn't want it, but couldn't choose freely in the parking lot. I had to go back to the counter, and they gave me a slightly newer Jeep Compass. I insisted I didn't like Jeeps, and there were many Nissan Rogues in the parking lot. Finally, they gave me a Nissan Rogue.

Hertz is a big company with many locations and cars, and the cars are very new. The Los Angeles airport branch is very close to the airport, making pick-up and drop-off very convenient. Our flight was delayed by several hours, and we were worried they wouldn’t hold our reserved car. We arrived at 2 AM, and the staff was very accommodating, and we got the model we reserved. We rented a GMC YUKON XL because we had 4 adults and 2 kids. The car was new, in great condition, and very comfortable for the 5600+ kilometers we drove. The price was reasonable, just over 10,000 RMB for 17 days, and fuel cost was lower than expected, only 400 USD. We will use QEEQ again and will choose Hertz first.

Hertz is truly a big company; the entire process was very organized and user-friendly. The vehicle provided was in excellent condition. When we picked up the car, we noticed some scratches on the wheel. After showing photos to the service desk, they said it was fine. Upon returning the car, they simply checked the odometer and fuel level and completed the inspection. They had held a $200 deposit when we picked up the car, which was promptly refunded to our card after the inspection. It was really fast.

It was okay, but the lady at the front desk kept trying to upsell me. Even though I clearly stated I didn't want those services, she still added them to the bill, and I had to argue with her on the spot. If my English wasn't good, I would have been scammed. Also, the waiting time was too long; I had to wait in line for almost half an hour. Why can't the rental company implement a fast track? For those who don't need additional services, they should just check the driver's license and process the pre-authorization. It shouldn't be so complicated, should it?

Excellent service. Since it was my first time driving on a toll highway and I didn't know how to pay, a Hertz employee was very helpful and called to pay the toll for me when I returned the car. I'm truly grateful; they saved me a lot of money. For future visitors driving in the U.S., if you don't want to take the highway, set the GPS to avoid highways. If you're okay with highways, remember that at toll booths, you have to exit the main line to pay and then merge back in.

The Los Angeles LAX location has VIP and regular areas. This was my first time renting from Hertz, and I was in the regular area. I was assisted by an older Caucasian man, which is unusual as most companies have South Asian individuals in customer service roles. The man was chatty and checked my insurance situation, then told me I didn't need to buy any additional insurance. I asked if I needed to wash the car before returning it, and he said 'just leave it dirty.' The car got quite dirty inside and out, and despite washing it twice, I couldn't get it completely clean. They didn't charge me for it afterwards. I was in a hurry to catch my flight when returning the car and miscalculated the fuel amount—it was just at the Full line. I felt a bit embarrassed, but they didn't charge me extra for that either. I would consider using Hertz again in the future.

They aggressively pushed insurance to Chinese customers. When refused, we were told there were no Toyota Sequoia SUVs (which start at 500,000 RMB in China) available and were given a Hyundai Santa Fe SUV (which starts at 110,000 RMB in China) instead. When questioned, they blatantly lied, claiming it's the same class of car. We couldn't fit our luggage and had to pay extra to upgrade and buy Hertz-recommended insurance again. This was the first time we encountered such a shameless car rental company after renting cars abroad multiple times. Even giving them one star feels too generous.

The Hertz Los Angeles Airport location is actually a bit far. Though I originally reserved a 4Runner and saw many of them at the pickup location, they wouldn't give me one. Instead, they gave me a Nissan Pathfinder, but the paperwork wasn't completed properly. When I went back to the counter to sort it out, they inexplicably made me switch cars or pay more money. The whole process took over an hour, and the counter staff weren't very friendly.

The service staff at the store was really infuriating. There was a bit of forced selling, asking me to upgrade my insurance. I initially said no, but he directly added it to the bill. Fortunately, I noticed it and saw there was a $200 deposit and $52 insurance charge. I told him I didn't want either of them, and although he reluctantly removed them and gave me a new bill, the bill indicated a $200 charge. But after I signed, I found my credit card was still charged $252. I am so mad. I've had a good impression of Zuzuche, and this is the fifth time renting through them and the fourth with Hertz. This is the first time I've had such an issue. Can someone help me file a complaint? I want my money back, and the receipt is in the pictures attached.

The airport shuttle goes directly to the car rental store, which takes about five minutes. The shuttle driver was very friendly. Upon arrival at the car rental company, there were staff members to guide me, and they were very enthusiastic. There was a line for processing the paperwork, but it didn't take long. The service staff were surprised to see that I was returning the car in Chicago. I told them I was going to drive Route 66. I had booked a Nissan Quest but waited for a long time, so they ended up giving me a Dodge, which I was very happy with. It made me feel more secure for my long trip. The car was almost new, having only driven over 2,000 miles. The fuel tank capacity was also high, more than a Toyota Sienna. While a full tank on a Sienna shows around 300 miles, the Dodge can reach up to 500 miles, which is reassuring when driving long distances without frequent gas stations. Of course, there are plenty of gas stations on Route 66. For Highway 1, I would recommend a vehicle with a large fuel tank. After confirming the vehicle, take the slip, find your assigned parking space number, and then just drive off.

A very pleasant car rental experience. As soon as you exit Los Angeles airport, you can take their free shuttle to the rental office. The cars are nice, and even the same models seem better equipped than those in China. When returning the car in Las Vegas, I didn't know and thought returns could be made in the city, so I took many unnecessary detours and wasted a lot of time. I lived in the US for three years, and although I didn't have any car rental experiences, I used to think Hertz, being a big company, would have standardized services. After this experience, a big NO!! I will never rent from them again! First, we booked a Jeep 2.0 on zuzuche.com, but when we got to the Los Angeles International Airport pickup point, we waited in line for 45 minutes only to be told that the car was no longer available! The worst part was that they offered us an upgrade (for extra money) to a Dodge (which is much worse than a Jeep in terms of driving experience!!!!!!!). Third, the front desk staff repeatedly tried to sell us additional insurance products (for most Chinese tourists, basic insurance is more than enough, especially if they've already bought insurance before the trip). Fourth, they lied to us, saying that filling up gas in Los Angeles by yourself would cost $9.99 per gallon (hell no, it was actually $2.69/gallon, blatant deceit, and it wasn't just one employee's behavior; it was written clearly on a blackboard at the front desk with $9.99, showing that employees commonly engage in deceptive practices), just to make us buy their fuel service waiver (which costs an extra $53). The result was that I rented a Dodge from Hertz, which had poor handling, especially on the highway. The car was very light and prone to accidents. The 4-day rental price was even higher than the 6-day rental of a Ford Mustang I booked later! Hertz, never again!

I visited during China's National Day holiday. Contrary to some reviews, there weren't long lines for car pickup at night, probably because it wasn't a holiday in the U.S. I had prepaid, and the friendly receptionist, an enthusiastic African American woman, didn't aggressively upsell additional insurance. I was pleased with the service. I chose a Nissan Sentra, which had only a little over 3,000 miles on it. It looked pretty new.

There are many shuttle buses and it's close to the airport. No need to queue, just pick up the order on arrival. However, the order printed on-site only had basic insurance, despite having purchased comprehensive insurance on QEEQ! Then they asked if I wanted to add insurance! I carefully checked the QEEQ order and decided to ignore the on-site order. Didn't add any insurance. Additionally, QEEQ allows adding additional drivers for free. On-site, they informed us that the main driver's insurance only covers the spouse. The third driver was my dad, and they said it couldn't cover him. They asked if I wanted to extend the insurance to cover the third person. After some consideration, I decided not to.

Then they said there was a discount for China Eastern or Air China members, obviously trying to rip me off. When I still refused, they said they didn't have the model I wanted and gave me a car parked in a corner. After dragging our luggage around to find the car, the tank was empty. I went back to the service desk, and they gave me another car at the opposite end of the lot. It took an hour and a half in total! They claim to be the biggest company.

Starting with a rant obviously wouldn't keep anyone's attention. Let me first declare that this is not a rant, but the reality. At LA's B terminal, there's a Hertz shuttle passing every 2 minutes, indicating their market share is high. Nonetheless, their service and operations are absolutely terrible! A Korean employee greeted me and told me the Corvette I had reserved was not available and offered me a standard Mercedes convertible instead. This is not even close to the same category of car, and I had paid extra for the specific model! After a lengthy discussion, he offered me a GTR instead but said there'd be an additional $109 fee, which I reluctantly accepted for the GTR. Then, after some keyboard clicks, he told me the GTR was also unavailable and offered me a Mercedes CLA 43 for free, mentioning multiple times that it was free. I assumed this was a free upgrade from the Corvette, as the CLA 43 is much cheaper in the US compared to the Corvette, let alone the GTR. He even promised a full tank of fuel as compensation. I almost hugged him for that, but you know, there's always a twist! I was still charged $109. When returning the car, I asked for confirmation and was told I agreed to the added cost. Are you kidding me? A CLA 43 instead of a Corvette for an extra $109 even though it's my reserved model that you did not have? The employee from that day was nowhere to be found. I handed over the key and left. I will never choose Hertz again!
Additionally, there was another issue. When I realized I might be charged, I proactively contacted the rental platform. The customer service said they would help but later sent me an email stating: 'The store's phone is unreachable, please handle it yourself!' Honestly, why are you not as responsive when taking payments? Ridiculous!

The Hertz agent was very dishonest. They tried every possible way to make the renters spend more. Despite having bought full coverage insurance through ZuzuCar, the Hertz agent sneakily added several unnecessary insurances like theft insurance, glass breakage insurance, and tire insurance during our conversation, without informing me. I rented the car for 30 days and spent 11,000 on ZuzuCar. However, after returning the car, I discovered an additional 4400 charge for Hertz insurance. Renting insurance from them is a scam. It's better not to buy any insurance from ZuzuCar in the first place.

Upon arriving in Los Angeles to pick up the car, we had booked a 7-seater Mercedes GLS SUV, but when we got to the Hertz rental point, the staff clearly told us that the system showed we had booked a 5-seater Mercedes GLC SUV. We had five people in our group, four adults and one child, plus three suitcases, which the Mercedes GLC could not accommodate. The staff insisted that their system showed our booking was for a 5-seater (even though we had a printed reservation for a 7-seater large SUV, the Mercedes GLS). Eventually, we paid an extra $400 to upgrade to an Infiniti QX80 (the rental platform's customer service agreed for us to pay the upgrade fee first and take the car to avoid impacting our schedule, and they would handle the coordination later). The staff also provided a handwritten note explaining the situation. The whole process took about two hours.

Overall service attitude was quite good, but there was constant upselling for a vehicle upgrade, claiming we had too much luggage and that the Ford Focus was too small, recommending a larger vehicle, which we firmly refused. In reality, the car we rented was in zone 3 area, where other cars like CRV4 and Nissan were also available. Therefore, it was possible to get a better car than what we had booked. It was raining heavily, and we didn't bother to choose carefully. The exterior looked fairly new, so we didn't switch. It had around 30,000 to 40,000 miles.

After arriving in the US, I was in an unfamiliar place and didn't speak the language well. Unexpectedly, my SIM card didn't work. The rental company's shuttle bus had no markings, so I had to ask each driver individually— it was quite desperate! Why not send the pick-up location information earlier? This should be sent before the departure because once you land in another country, you can't always count on having a working phone signal! It's not considerate!

Picking up the car was convenient. At Hertz, there was no need to queue, while at the same time, there were many people in line at Thrifty. If the daily price difference isn't significant, consider Hertz. Although they claim 24-hour service, on the last day, I tried multiple times to extend the rental by phone but couldn't get through. The next day, I accidentally went to the service desk next door and was able to extend the rental with an agent. The price was slightly higher than the daily rate on QEEQ. When asked why no one answered the phone, I was told that no one picks up on weekends. So, if you plan to extend your rental, call on a weekday! Also, when I inquired about insurance, it seemed there was no third-party liability insurance, but the reservation on QEEQ included it. Luckily, there were no issues. So, if you're not in a hurry when picking up the car, take the time to inquire about third-party liability insurance!

During the paperwork process, the Hertz agent from Asia had a constant smile but also tried to persuade me to buy additional insurance and even encouraged an upgrade. Even though I had already purchased full insurance, he still claimed that I didn’t have roadside assistance. After repeatedly emphasizing that I had bought all the necessary insurance, he finally directed me to the car lot. Be cautious, as this is another potential pitfall. There were about five or six different cars parked, but only two of them were actually available for me. The others required an upgrade (if you accidentally took one, you might get stopped when leaving, wasting a lot of time). After taking several photos and confirming repeatedly, I finally got my car (there was no Ford Focus as I had reserved). Instead, I got a Kia Forte, which turned out to be nice to drive with lane-keeping assist. Driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas was stress-free. American drivers are very disciplined, making the experience very enjoyable.
