“Downgraded my car when unavailable”

It was a bad experience. I went to pick up the booked car (Intermediate | Holden Commodore or similar) at Europcar Auckland, and was told that the car I wanted was not available, and the "similar" cars were not available as well. They then proceeded to offer several other cars, which were all downgrades from what I booked online. I rejected the downgrades, and Europcar staff said "that's all they have", and that "they can't do anything about it". I left the shop with a downgraded 1.4L Turbo Jeep Compass, which was much cheaper than what I have already pre-paid. I'll never use their services again.

“The car is really economic. But the staff didn't give or receive the car and they arrived late.”

I think it is important to give the car and receive it to check it is in good conditions before leave the place. But the staff didn't do that, so we needed to leave with a photograf register about car condition as well as when we wanted to return the car after our trip.

The customer service at pickup did not allow me to see the terms and conditions, and insisted on processing my card before showing the contract. When I asked why, they said it was their policy, which felt very impersonal. Additionally, due to an accident on the road, I wanted to exchange the car. I called their customer service and was told I could, but when I arrived, they took the car back instead.

Car was good but terrible service at counter. Long delay because of possible staff shortage. Unnecessary detail required by counter staff and explanations of unattractive options. A charge of $30 because of location and high office rental was extortion!!

When picking up the car at Queenstown Airport a closer to 9pm, we waited for 20+ minutes before being served. The counter lady is a trainee and told us that we have to find the car ourselves as she does not know which bay# the car resides. Also she could not answer some of the questions on card authorisation and insurance which leaves us quite unhappy. We finally found the car we noted that the petrol was not entirely full and it is not upon drop-off that we got told that we have to take a photo to validate such. Without any further info from the trainee, we simply infer that we need to return the car at the same petrol level to when we pick it up. So we filled up the petrol to full tank before we drive out from our final destination to Christchurch airport which took one hour and return the car as it is. During the rental we also notified Europcar that the electric uplift back door malfunction at times. Later we received an invoice from Europcar and got charged additional 86NZD on petrol which left us extremely unsatisfactory about the entire rental experience.

There was almost no one when I arrived, so I didn't have to queue. It appeared to be a South Asian lady who arranged my order. She was friendly and enthusiastic, and provided detailed instructions on the return location and process in Wellington.

Renting the car went smoothly, but returning it was another story. The attendant made me feel discriminated against as a Chinese person by checking the vehicle multiple times and insisted there were scratches on the front bumper that were already there when I rented it.
