Overall, I give four stars. The reason I deducted one star is because they told me at the pickup store that the car of the same class was unavailable. Although they offered a free ride to the airport to get it, I declined due to time constraints and chose a lower class car. We negotiated a 50NZD discount on the one-way rental fee. Fortunately, the car had less than 20,000 kilometers and was very new.
Overall, the car rental company was good. Our flight was canceled so we extended the rental by one day and changed the return location to the same city. However, we were still charged a 200NZD one-way fee, but after follow-up communication, it was quickly refunded. A bit careless, but efficient.
Shuttle Bus from airport to Rental Premises quick and easy. Fast turnaround to get car sorted. Car was great ... drove well... reasonable fuel economy ... no issues at all
The car was not what I booked, they tried to sell it as an upgrade. Received significant downgrade.
The staff not speaking English as their first language made it difficult for them to understand.
The car we received had clearly been in a crash. With obvious cracks, chips and serious scuffs on the rims.
I believe this company purposely charges extra fees. When returning the car, they found a scratch on the windshield in less than half a minute, claiming we caused it. At the time, I didn't have the photos of the car from when we picked it up, so I thought it might have been our fault. Later, we found photos on my wife's phone showing the scratch was already there when we picked up the car. The EZi store clerk in Japan, who found the scratch within 30 seconds, confirmed the photos and assured me we would get a refund, saying they were 100% certain. I confirmed with him multiple times, and he said no additional proof was needed. But now, back in my home country, after waiting the promised five business days, the rental company is denying the refund. I believe they make money off minor damages like these. My advice is to avoid EZi Car Rental or make sure to thoroughly photograph the front and rear windshields. Other damages are usually obvious and don't need as much attention. Don't easily accept charges without evidence, especially for the windshield. Getting a refund is extremely difficult, and they might even go back on their word. However, I have to commend Zuzuche for their responsibility. Always rent through Zuzuche for better protection against such international rental companies' unethical practices.
