The wait time for the car was a bit long, but the service was excellent. Since the model we booked was not available, we later switched to a Hyundai MPV.
Each customer took a long time to be served while queuing; during the return, they mentioned there was sand in the car, implying a cleaning service was needed; a pre-authorization of 200 AUD was taken, and it's been over a week since I returned home without getting it back. It's unlikely that cleaning would cost 200 AUD.
I hadn't been to LAX in a long time and forgot how to find the shuttle, so it took me a while to locate it. The store wasn't very busy in the late afternoon around 6-7 PM. It shares the premises with Hertz. I waited in line for about 10 minutes before enquiring what cars were available. They offered me a Nissan Armada and a Ford Expedition, and recommended the Ford because it was a newer model. They suggested additional insurance, but I declined. The car was okay, though not exceptionally clean. There were some residual spots in corners not easily visible, but it was acceptable.
The counter inside the airport is relatively easy to find. The pickup is in the parking lot, and there was no one to guide us. We had to follow the directions from the counter. We waited more than half an hour for the car, which was different from the one we reserved. We booked a sedan, but we got a hatchback. We were told it could fit two 24-inch suitcases, but the hatchback clearly couldn't. This was very disappointing. Also, in Oman, you have to wash the car before returning it, or you'll be charged. When returning the car, the store asked for the booking slip again, even though they had already checked it when we picked up the car. Overall, compared to experiences in China, there is still much room for improvement.
The Dollar rental service was quite disappointing. They downgraded my vehicle at first and then asked for additional fees, which I refused. They didn't mention additional insurance during the process, but it was included on the receipt they printed. It's been a long time since I rented a car abroad, so I thought it wouldn't be added if it wasn't mentioned. I signed the document based on that assumption.
