Pickup took quite a while. My booking was for 12:00 noon, but there were a lot of people, so it took about 45 minutes just to finish the paperwork. Then I had to wait until 1:00 pm for a staff member to drive us to the pickup lot, and that ride took almost 20 minutes as well. Overall it felt really long.
They dropped the car off for us right at the airport, then even drove us to our hotel in the city. When we returned the car, they picked it up directly from our hotel. Everything was super smooth and convenient from start to finish.
Everything went smoothly overall. The only slight downside was that the check-in process was a bit slow because we had to enter all our info on the spot (they did send a link beforehand so you can fill it out in advance, but we were on the plane and didn’t see it). No one tried to upsell extra services, there were no extra cross-border fees, and they even asked if we needed help buying highway passes for other countries. Drop-off was quick and easy too, done in about 5 minutes, and the deposit was refunded pretty fast.
Pick-up and drop-off were super quick! Definitely worth going with a big rental company—no hidden fees, great service, really happy with the whole experience.
Service really depends on who you get. At the Europcar counter in Warsaw airport, the first day we had this long-haired guy—service was just so-so, and he kept trying to add extra charges for everything. The second day we got a short-haired guy who looked sharp, handled everything quickly, didn’t add any extra fees, and patiently answered my questions about whether all our luggage would fit. Super efficient!
The car we booked was exactly the model we got and it ran really well. We drove it in Turkey for 11 days, over 3,000 km with zero issues, and finished our road trip safely and smoothly.
Pickup was super easy — the whole explanation took like a minute, then they handed over the keys and we grabbed our luggage. Just remember to fill up the tank before returning the car, otherwise they’ll charge you $9.99 a gallon.
I rented with Avis at a European airport this time and the whole experience was excellent. I booked online in advance, the terms were very clear, and changing or cancelling was really easy. When I arrived at the counter the line was short, staff were professional and patient, carefully checked my documents, and clearly explained the insurance and toll policies. The whole pickup process took just over ten minutes.
The car itself was practically brand new, very clean inside with no smell, solid chassis and plenty of power. Storage space was more than enough for multiple people with luggage, and it handled long drives really well. The return location was very convenient and close to the terminal, so no detours. Staff inspected the car quickly, there were no hidden fees, and the final bill was very transparent. The 24/7 roadside assistance also made the trip feel very secure. For future short trips I’ll definitely prioritize Avis again. Just be mindful of parking rules and speeding tickets.
Everything else was fine, but the rental desk at Nice Airport was a bit frustrating. The lady at the counter was really pushing their own insurance. I told her I’d already bought full coverage, and she kept saying it wasn’t their policy and that I’d have to pay out of pocket first if anything happened. Only after I said I understood did she finally drop it. Then I proactively asked to add two additional drivers, and she told me we could add them when returning the car, that it wasn’t necessary at pickup. I actually believed her at the time, but that’s really irresponsible. If something had happened on the road and the drivers weren’t listed, the insurance wouldn’t have paid out! The more I thought about it, the more it bothered me. The next day I went back to Nice Airport to sort it out. This time a male staff member helped me, and he said of course the drivers should be added and paid for at pickup, otherwise there could be issues with the insurance. He added the drivers for me and, since I’d made a second trip to the branch to fix their mistake, he waived the fee for the second driver.
